Skills Assessment

The list of skills is pretty long, but I still managed to pull out some that I am good at. I believe that I am a very active listener. Of all of the skills on the list, that would be the highest. I am very good at paying attention to what people are saying and making sure that people know that I am paying attention. I enjoy listening to people and that is why this is at the top of my list. The second skill I enjoy is writing. I am very interested in going into a career involving writing one way or another. I would love to be able to create stories with my words and give people entertainment through those stories. The third skill that I enjoy is problem solving. I like to find tricky situations and come up with a solution for them. I am not always quick at doing it, but I do feel like I will eventually get it done. One skill that I feel like I perform well at is listening. As I mentioned above, I enjoy listening to others because I feel like it is so important to work with others, and to make sure they know that I am paying attention to those that are speaking. Another skill that I perform well is Negotiating. I have always had a knack for being able to make two parties happy. I have a way with people and I feel like it shows when negotiating is needing to be done. The this skill that I perform well is Time Management. I haven't always been that great at time management but I spent some time in Germany and while there, I developed this skill. The two years I was there, I was going from meeting to meeting and I had to have good time management otherwise I would have stood a lot of people up. I saw that it was important to be on time and to know what I had scheduled for the day. There are a lot of skills that I would love to develop but to name just three, I would like to work on Reading comprehension, Judgement and decision making, and Management of Financial Resources. My plan for developing these skills is to sit down and go over what exactly each of these skills means. I will define each of them and then look for people in my life that exemplify each of them, and then shadow those people, staying aware of what they do and how they do it. I feel like doing those simple things will bring me a step closer to attaining these skills.

My Top Ten Values

Jake Van Wagoner Top 10 Values CLSS 2100 1/27/12 1. Service - This is so important to me because I beleive that when you are giving of yourself, you will be rewarded much greater than if you only seek after things to make yourself happy 2. Kindess - When dealing with other human beings there is really only one way you should be acting, kind. This will make other respect you, and make others want to be around you. 3. Cheerful - Being cheerful makes your life wonderful. If you can be happy you can chance peoples lives for the good. 4. Honest - It is so important to be honest in everything you do. When you are honest, others can trust you and you will have more and more responsibilities, in turn making you a better leader 5. Punctual - I believe that being on time shows others that you are willing to do everything the best you can. Showing others that you can be on time means that you take things seriously and you respect their time. 6. Respect - This one is so important because you can only get respect from others when you give respect. That might sound like a cliche, but it's true. 7. Motivated - Showing your employer that you are motivated is one of the best ways to move up in a company and get to where you want to be. When you are doing things on your own, and don't have to be told what to do all the time, you are much more likely to leave a lasting impression on those around you. 8. Loyal - When you are being loyal you will be respected, and you will show your employer that are committed to the job you're in. 9. Be Positive - Being positive is one of the best ways to make it through the day. It will spread to others and show others that you are a hard worker. 10. Confident - Being confident will show others that you are capable of new task. It's important not to become cocky, but to be confident that you can get your work done and be successful with whatever you're doing.
